Colour trends for 2025

As we approach the New Year, our thoughts turn to the defining interior trends of the last 12 months, identifying those that might be here to stay and looking at the emerging themes for the year ahead. From rich tones to colour drenching, here are a few trends already on our radar for 2025.

Earthy tones

Rich, earthy hues like deep browns and burnt oranges have been immensely popular throughout 2024. Their timeless appeal ensures they’ll continue to be a staple in our homes into the new year. These rich tones are particularly impactful when used in small spaces, but can be used in larger spaces to add extra drama and depth.

If you’re keen to incorporate these colours into your home next year but want to do so gradually, try pairing them with complementary whites and neutrals or add them into your space by painting panelling so that your room gets a pop of colour without being overbearing.

A splash of red

Traditionally seen as a bold choice reserved for maximalist style, red has evolved into a popular accent colour in recent years. Whether used sparingly through accessories like cushions or more prominently in furniture, it’s an easy way to experiment without committing fully.

In 2025, vibrant pops of red will transition to richer tones like merlot and burgundy. For a daring approach, a burgundy kitchen exudes warmth and sophistication, while accessories such as a plush footstool provide a less permanent option.

Nature’s neutrals

Olive and sage greens, often referred to as “nature neutrals,” remain timeless favourites. In 2025, expect a shift towards deeper greens and vibrant moss tones, reflecting a bolder, more adventurous palette. These shades bring a calming, grounding quality to interiors and effortlessly connect the indoors with the natural world.

Colour drenching

Although not tied to a specific hue, colour drenching – the technique of painting an entire room, including walls, ceilings, doors, skirting boards, and cabinetry – has been a defining trend. While muted tones have dominated this look in the past, 2025 will likely see a shift towards brighter, bolder colours for a striking, conversation-starting effect.

Muted tones

Softer muted tones such as blush, lavender, pinks, or powder blues, add a sense of calm to interiors, proving a popular choice historically in bedrooms to create a relaxed and peaceful space. Pale or plaster pinks can add a highly sophisticated feel and we saw a shift to these being used to create a boutique feel, particularly in bathrooms and powder rooms. As we head into next year, I anticipate that we will start to see these colours increasingly around the home and in more primary living spaces such as kitchens and casual living spaces.

Prints and patterns

Maximalist interiors with bold patterns have long been a design favourite, but 2025 will see a resurgence of wallpaper in everyday spaces. Stripes, contrasting patterns, and unexpected combinations will dominate, with some daring homeowners even wallpapering ceilings for a playful, modern twist on a classic decor technique.
