Savills Supports the Salvation Army with Savills Housing Project

21 April 2016

Savills Australia is delighted to announce its partnership with The Salvation Army to establish the Savills Housing Project in Sydney.

The Savills Housing Project has been established to fund accommodation for families experiencing homelessness in Sydney, many of whom have been affected by domestic violence and abuse.

Mr Simon Fenn, Savills NSW Managing Director said, “there are so many families who do not have a safe and stable home, this project will assist those facing an accommodation crisis and provide support to enable families to transition into self-sustainable housing and a better life.”

Homelessness is often a result of a number of complex issues which can include: chronic shortage of affordable and available rental housing, domestic and family violence, intergenerational poverty, financial crisis, long term unemployment, economic and social exclusion, severe and persistent mental illness and psychological distress, as well as exiting state care.

Mr Peter Cleave, Development Manager, The Salvation Army said, “many of our clients are caught in an inescapable cycle of homelessness. They may move from one service to another, receiving support but being unable to sustain their independence. With the increasing cost of housing and the decreasing supply of public housing, clients remain trapped in this cycle. Our aim is to try and break this cycle of homelessness using a holistic approach, including a case worker and a range of services, specifically tailored to meet the needs of the family and the individuals.”

“The family who moved into the pilot Savills Housing Project now have a certainty in their lives thanks to the generosity and support of Savills. 2015 marked their first Christmas in a stable home in more than five years.”

Every year The Salvation Army assists hundreds of thousands of Australians and is one of the largest providers of homelessness services in Australia.

Savills Australia is proud to be aligned with such a worthy project and helping to contribute to The Salvation Army’s ongoing fight to break the cycle of homelessness.
